World Trade Organization (WTO)

CIL is honoured that the World Trade Organisation has appointed Associate Professor Michael Ewing-Chow to represent Singapore as a WTO Chair of its trade research programme. In addition, the WTO has invited Prof Ewing-Chow and Prof Dora Neo to participate as experts at the WTO Advanced Regional Workshop on the GATS from 8-10 February 2011 in Singapore. The experts were assisted by CIL Research Associate Liu Gerhuan. They presented on “Trade in Financial Services and Financial Crises” to the 38 officials from the Asia-Pacific region attending the Workshop. Prof Ewing-Chow shared his thoughts on the interaction of Regional Trade Agreements and the GATS, specifically calling attention to the need to harmonise RTA Investment Chapters with their Services Chapters.
