Dr Romesh Weeramantry
Adjunct Professor, Head, International Dispute Resolution
Dr Romesh Weeramantry specializes in investment treaty disputes and cross-border commercial arbitrations. He currently practices in these fields as Counsel at Clifford Chance in Singapore. His career has included positions as a Legal Officer at the United Nations Compensation Commission (Geneva) and a Legal Advisor to the President of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal (The Hague).
Dr Weeramantry has taught previously as an Associate Professor at the City University of Hong Kong and as an Associate Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong.
His publications include Treaty Interpretation in Investment Arbitration (Oxford UP 2012); and International Commercial Arbitration: An Asia-Pacific Perspective (Cambridge UP 2011). He is a General Editor of the Asian Dispute Review and a General Arbitration Editor of Volume 3 of the Hong Kong White Book. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the ICSID Review and the IBA Subcommittee on Investment Treaty Arbitration.
Dr Weeramantry was educated at Monash University (BA/LLB) and King’s College London (LLM). His PhD was written at the Queen Mary School of International Arbitration, London and published by Oxford University Press.
