eConference: Legal Implications of Covid-19 for International Aviation

Acknowledging that the COVID-19 pandemic presents the greatest crisis that the civil aviation industry has ever faced, this panel engaged in a lively discussion on the responses in the aviation sector from the perspective of governments, regulators, airlines and international organisations. The panellists touched on the challenges of adapting current regulations and standards to the current situation, while highlighting the continuing relevance of existing international aviation regimes and looking ahead to what measures will be needed to restore the confidence of travellers and governments and to facilitate re-opening of markets.

The panellists also answered the audience’s questions on some cross-sectorial issues, such as the future of aviation industry in emissions trading, and whether COVID-19 will trigger force majeure clause in contracts, among others.
