CIL hosted the 2nd Singapore Conference on International Investment Arbitration on 31 May 2011. As with the inaugural conference in 2010, the second conference was organised to be back to back with the Singapore International Arbitration Forum. Mr Philip Jeyaretnam SC, Chairman of Maxwell Chambers, was the Guest of Honour. Many leading trade and investment experts, arbitrators, academics, researchers, and government policy-makers participated in the conference, which focused on the timely issue of “International Investment Agreements and Financial Crises”.
In the evening of 31 May 2011, CIL also hosted the sixth series of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) “Conversations on Improvements to the International Investor-State Dispute Settlement System”. The purpose of this “Conversation” was to discuss informal and out-of-the-box proposals on improvements to the international investor-State arbitration system.
