Professor Can Yeginsu will share his experience and insights about arguing international law before domestic courts and in high-profile cases before international courts, as well as before arbitral tribunals. He will also discuss his practice of advising States in contentious and non-contentious matters.

Professor Can Yeginsu is a leading London-based barrister practising from 3 Verulam Buildings in commercial litigation, international commercial and investment arbitration, human rights and public international law. He is also a member of the Law Faculties at Columbia Law School (New York), Georgetown University Law Center (Washington D.C.), and Koç University Law School (Istanbul) where he teaches and co-teaches courses on international arbitration, international human rights law, and public international law.

As a Court advocate, Professor Yeginsu has acted in over 40 matters in the English Court of Appeal, the UK Supreme Court, the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and before the UN treaty bodies. He has also acted as co-counsel in proceedings before the ECOWAS Court of Justice. His clients include the Government of the United States, the Wikimedia Foundation, the Nobel Prize Laureate, Maria Ressa, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Professor Yeginsu also sits as an international arbitrator and has served as an expert on English law and public international law in several domestic court proceedings and international arbitrations. In 2021, Professor Yeginsu was appointed by Lord Neuberger (President of the UK Supreme Court, 2012-2017) as the Deputy Chair of the High-Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, succeeding Mrs. Amal Clooney.
