Denise Cheong Participates in a Seminar on Global Energy Megatrends

Denise Cheong, Head of Energy Law & Policy, participated in a seminar by Dr Frank Umbach, Head of Research, European Cluster for Climate, Energy and Resource Security at the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS), University of Bonn/Germany. Dr Umbach spoke on global energy megatrends and focused specifically on the future role of nuclear power and hydrogen. As part of this seminar, he shared perspectives on the cost effectiveness of nuclear power and small nuclear reactors, given declining costs of renewables and electricity storage options. The seminar also considered international hype surrounding the role of hydrogen in the global energy transition, in light of cost uncertainties, energy and technology efficiency as well as new geopolitical risks, vulnerabilities and supply chain dependencies. This seminar was held at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University on Friday, 7 June 2024.
