Denise Cheong Attended the Official Launch of the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute

Head of Energy Law & Policy and Principal Research Fellow Denise Cheong represented CIL at the official launch of the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI) by National Research Foundation Chairman Mr Heng Swee Keat on 11 July 2025.
SNSRI's new premises comprise a five-story building and a basement and is located in Prince George’s Park in the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge Campus.
The institute’s predecessor was the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative. The initiative was started in 2014 as Singapore’s first foray into nuclear research and had a large focus on nuclear safety and building talent. Amid growing international interest in tapping carbon-free nuclear energy, the new SNRSI will expand on its nuclear safety research and study emerging nuclear technologies, nuclear policy and undertake public outreach on ionising radiation.
Nuclear law and policy has been a research area for CIL since 2016. For more information on CIL’s work in this area, please click here.
