Sir William Blair on “AI in International Dispute Resolution: in the pursuit of Justice?”

CIL hosted a Sharing Session for its researchers by Professor Sir William Blair on "AI in International Dispute Resolution: in the pursuit of Justice?"
The discussion addressed how predictive AI tools and AI-assisted drafting are changing legal practice, while also considering risks such as bias, opacity, and "hallucinated" inaccuracies. Professor Blair explored how emerging technologies may both enhance and undermine justice, and outlined changes these innovations may bring to established procedures. Ethical considerations and opportunities for leveraging AI to shape fair and effective dispute resolution in a global context were core to the agenda.
The session on 15 October 2025 examined the potentially transformative role of artificial intelligence in international dispute resolution, and was organised by Celine Lange, Head of Dispute Resolution at CIL, and Dr Jon Truby, Visiting Research Associate Professor in AI & Technology Law at CIL. It included opening welcome notes by CIL Director Dr Nilufer Oral.
