The lecture will address the substance and purpose of investment protection standards, the role of investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanisms, and practical considerations in treaty negotiation and interpretation. It will also consider how evolving practice in treaty interpretation and dispute settlement can improve coherence and predictability in the application of investment protection rules.
