The Co-Moderators of the Dialogue are Professor Tommy Koh and/or Dr Nilüfer Oral.
The Centre for International Law (CIL), represented by Prof. Tommy Koh and Dr. Nilufer Oral, will host a dialogue with Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore H.E. Kateryna Zelenko. The event will examine how international law can remain a binding and credible framework in an increasingly turbulent global environment. The discussion will focus on core principles such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, freedom of navigation and the protection of civilians (including children) in situations of armed conflict.
With Russia’s war against Ukraine ongoing for the fifth year, it provides a substantial glimpse into the application of international law across multiple, interconnected domains. These include international security, global trade, technological advances, and the responsible conduct of states overall. Their interdependence amplifies the impact of crisis situations and underscores the importance of ensuring that international law continues to function effectively.
