4th meeting of the Ocean Policy Institute Network in the East Asian Region (OPINEAR)



The S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) of the Nanyang Technological University and the Centre for International Law (CIL) of the National University of Singapore jointly hosted the 4th meeting of the Ocean Policy Institute Network in the East Asian Region (OPINEAR) in Singapore from 24-25 November 2011. The Meeting was attended by OPINEAR members, such as Ocean Policy Research Foundation (Japan), Center for South East Asian Studies (Indonesia), Coastal and Ocean Management Institute (China), Maritime Institute of Malaysia and Korea Maritime Institute. Attendance was by invitation only. CIL Director Professor Robert Beckman and CIL Adjunct Senior Research Fellow Youna Lyons gave presentations on Singapore’s policy and institutions on ocean and coastal governance.

OPINEAR is an informal and non-governmental network of ocean policy institutes for the interaction, collaboration and policy development in East Asia with the secretariat based in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of the network is to encourage: (1) exchange of information and experience; (2) collaborative research on common issues and current concerns; and (3) capacity development. Members of OPINEAR include CIMA, CSEAS, KMI, MIMA, OPRF and RSIS with PEMSEA as an observer. More information about OPINEAR can be found here.
