Seminar on the South China Sea
Introduction
On 27 July 2010, CIL held a seminar on “The dotted line on the map of the South China Sea and its legal implications”.
The seminar introduced the history of the dotted line and discussed its legal implications for the SCS maritime boundary delimitation. Relevant issues such as China’s recent statement of the SCS as part of its “core interests”, Vietnamese and Malaysian submission of the outer limits of continental shelf in SCS, and joint development and other maritime cooperation in the SCS were also addressed.
About the Speaker
The speaker Dr. WANG Hanling is Professor of International Law and Marine Affairs; Director, Centre for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Institute for International Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and currently a visiting research fellow in the Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore.
