CIL and the International Boundaries Research Unit (IBRU) of Durham University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 19 September 2011. The MOU enabled CIL to bring IBRU’s celebrated training workshop on International Maritime Boundaries Delimitation to Asia and Singapore for the first time this year with another run planned for next year.

The CIL-IBRU Workshop was co-hosted with the NUS Faculty of Law from 19-21 September 2011 at the Bukit Timah Campus, with international trainers such as Mr Rodman Bundy (Partner, Eversheds International), Mr Chris Carleton (Head of the Law of the Sea Division, UK Hydrographic Office) and Professor Martin Pratt (Director, IBRU) as well as CIL Director Robert Beckman and CIL Research Associate Ms Tara Davenport.

Over 46 participants from 19 countries attended the Workshop including a participant from the United Nations. CIL sponsored 2 government officials each from Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines as part of the Centre’s regional international law capacity-enhancing mandate. We were privileged to receive H.E. Var Kim Hong, Cambodia’s Senior Minister in charge of Border Affairs, as the Workshop’s most senior participant.
