CIL Fireside Chat on International Humanitarian Law

FiresideChat-IntlHumanitarianLaw-6Sep2013The third installment of the 2013 CIL Fireside Chat Series on International Law & Diplomacy, focusing on “International Humanitarian Law: A Singapore Perspective”, took place on 6 September 2013. ICRC Regional Legal Advisor Mr. Christopher Harland outlined the history of IHL and the ICRC’s role in conflict areas such as Syria. Mr Jeffrey Chan, Deputy Solicitor-General, AGC, focused on enhancing Singapore’s IHL expertise. Mr. Hui Choon Kuen, Director, Legal Services, MINDEF, underlined the Singapore Armed Forces’ commitment to IHL and explained why Singapore hadn’t signed certain IHL instruments. Mr. Tee Tua Ba, Chairman, Singapore Red Cross, noted the difference between the ICRC, IFRC and national societies, and outlined the SRC’s humanitarian relief and IHL dissemination activities.
