Workshop on Academic Scholarship

Introduction

Prof Weiler-17Aug2016
This practical workshop, intended for scholars in the early stages of their career, had two principal purposes:

First, to offer guidance on research agenda setting and various research approaches and methodologies.  It was designed to explore different potentialities for research and writing projects, and was not a methodological proficiency training exercise.

Second, to offer advice on career management: publication strategy in an increasingly quantitative environment, bibliometrics, conferences and workshops, tenure, promotion and mobility.

The following are three short pieces one may read as background (click on the links).

  1. On My Way Out – Advice to Young Scholars I: Presenting a Paper in an International (and National) Conference
  2. On My Way Out – Advice to Young Scholars II: Career Strategy and the Publication Trap
  3. On My Way Out – Advice to Young Scholars III: Edited Books
