This Agreement was one of the ‘Covered Agreements’ pursuant to Article 1.1 of the 2004 ASEAN Protocol on Enhanced Dispute Settlement Mechanism read together with its Appendix I. It was previously one of the ‘Covered Agreements’ pursuant to Article 1.1 of the 1996 Protocol on Dispute Settlement Mechanism read together with its Appendix 1.

Article V, ‘Miscellaneous and Final Provisions’:

“1. This Agreement shall enter into force on the thirtieth (30th) day after the deposit of the fifth Instrument of Ratification.”

This Agreement was superseded by the 1987 Revised Basic Agreement on ASEAN Joint Industrial Ventures pursuant to Article V.

Brunei Darussalam acceded to this Agreement pursuant to the 1984 Declaration of the Admission of Brunei Darussalam into ASEAN.

The text reproduced in the unofficial CIL document follows that given in the print edition of ASEAN Documents Series 1967-1985, published by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 1985.

Note that the 1983 Supplementary Agreement to Amend the Basic Agreement on ASEAN Industrial Joint Ventures was signed on the same day as this instrument, amending its text.
