Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate Nivedita S attended a webinar on ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Deploying Small Modular Reactors in ASEAN’ organised by the Energy Studies Institute of the National University of Singapore on 3 September 2020. The webinar discussed the drivers for, and prospects of, deploying Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in Puerto Rico, an urban island state. Discussions also covered the risk, financing and project development aspects of deploying SMRs. Ongoing work in the United Kingdom for assessing and deploying SMRS was also discussed. The panellists were Eddie M Guerra, Co-Founder, The Nuclear Alternative Project; Paul M Murphy, Founder and Managing Director of Murphy Energy & Infrastructure Consulting, LLC; Amjad Ghori, Managing Director, AGIAS Advisory Limited; and Giorgio Locatelli, Chair in Project Business Strategy, University of Leeds.
