Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate S Nivedita participated in ‘The Future of Nuclear Energy,’ a webinar organised by the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative (SNRSI). The webinar, which was held on 9 November 2020, featured presentations by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts on (i) recent developments and prospects of nuclear power; (ii) nuclear power programme management, highlighting the example of the Turkish nuclear power programme; and (iii) the state of development of advanced reactors including small modular reactors (SMR) and Generation IV reactors, with quite a few SMR designs being projected for deployment by 2030. The IAEA experts were Mr Taichi Shimizu and Mr Mehmet Ceyhan, IAEA Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section and Dr Hadid Subki, IAEA Nuclear Power Technology Development Section.
