Indonesian Journal of International Law
Special Issue on:
Teaching and Researching International Law in Asia

Background

The Indonesian Journal of International Law (IJIL) celebrates 20 years of publication this year. Starting February 2022, IJIL passed indexation assessment for SCOPUS. All published articles will be made available online. IJIL provides and fosters academic discussion in the field of international law and has become the site where the ideas from practitioners and scholars meet. Our primary aim is to build the interest of scholars and decision-makers in the important role of international law and its development. We share the mission of other organizations such as the Asian Society of International Law that seek to develop international law in Asia.

With that purpose, we plan to explore the important theme of “Teaching and Researching International Law”, particularly, but not only, as it relates to Asia, as our as our main topic in October 2022 edition. The topic of `Teaching and Researching International Law’ is now being discussed world-wide, in Asia and Africa, Latin America and Europe, in an effort to revitalize international law and make its importance understood by a new generation of students. Technological developments, all the many challenges of teaching during the pandemic, changing institutional demands relating to teaching and scholarship, and evolving student expectations have all contributed to this trend to rethinking the role of teaching and scholarship. In many law schools in the Asian region and elsewhere, teachers face further challenges due to lack of technological and other resources, even while expectations are continuously increasing. These challenges call for innovation and adaptation, and a broader discussion. We have much to learn from each other. IJIL seeks to advance this important discussion.

IJIL, having published on a rich variety of international law issues over the last 20 years, welcomes articles that provide further insight into the challenges of teaching and researching international law in these times. IJIL welcomes contributions, including reflections based on experiences, from all countries dealing with any aspect of this broad topic, including (but not limited to):
