23 June 2022: CIL Director Dr Nilufer Oral was Invited to Speak at the 80th Biennial Conference of the International Law Association (ILA) held in Lisbon


Dr Oral moderated at the session: International Law and Current Challenges: Sea-Level Rise on 22 June 2022. She was also one of the panellists at the session: Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction on 23 June 2022.

International law is key to peace, justice, and development in a globalized world. Since 1873, the ILA’s constitutional objective has been “the study, clarification and development of international law, both public and private, and the furtherance of international understanding and respect for international law”. There are over 4000 members of the Association spread among 64 Branches throughout the world, including Singapore.

The ILA aims to :

              • Bring together all interested in international law worldwide, from legal and mediation practice, the judiciary, academia, business, and international, governmental and non-governmental organizations;
              • Foster understanding of international law both generally and, particularly through its scholarship fund, among young persons across the world;
              • Promote greater respect for and adherence to international law.
