26 August 2020: Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate Nivedita S Attended IAEA Webinar on ‘Responsibilities and Functions of a Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organization’.

Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate Nivedita S attended the International Atomic Energy Agency’s webinar on ‘Responsibilities and Functions of a Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organization (NEPIO)’ on 26 August 2020.  The webinar discussed the functions and responsibilities of a NEPIO and how these evolve through each phase of the IAEA Milestones Approach, highlighting the central role it plays in coordinating efforts among the plurality of stakeholders involved in developing a nuclear power programme. Through several country case studies, the webinar also explored different NEPIO structures and the associated benefits and challenges. Panellists were Mr Thibaud Reysset, Nuclear Programme Developer, Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section, IAEA; Mr Benjamin Nyarko, Director General, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Ghana; Ms Liliya Dulinets, Deputy Director, Nuclear Energy Department, Ministry of Energy, Belarus; and Mr Marcelo Gomes da Silva, Head, Department of Nuclear New Build, Eletronuclear, Brazil. The discussion was moderated by Ms Nadya Kurova-Chernavina from the IAEA. This webinar is part of a series organised by the IAEA on the ‘Role of Government and Key Organizations in Nuclear Power Programme Development’.
