CIL Research Associate Junianto James Losari was invited to speak about the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) before representatives of various ministries of the Republic of Myanmar as part of a capacity building seminar on investment organised by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia and the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development (NPED). More than 50 government officials attended this seminar, which was held on 27 September 2014 at Hotel Sedona in Yangon. In his presentation, James emphasised the importance of improving governance and the rule of law in the country, as well as ensuring that Myanmar’s new regulations and policies comply with the ACIA in order to minimise the costly risks of litigation.
