29 October 2020: Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate Nivedita S Participate in IAEA Webinar on ‘Responsibilities and Capabilities of Owners and Operators’

Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Associate Nivedita S participated in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s webinar on ‘Responsibilities and Capabilities of Owners and Operators’ on 29 October 2020. The webinar discussed the responsibilities and capabilities of owners and operators of nuclear power plants, as laid out in the IAEA Milestones Approach. With Poland and Bangladesh as case studies, the webinar explored the different roles of operators and owners and the associated challenges, including those related to human resource development and safety culture. The webinar also introduced the new Roadmap to Operational Readiness produced by the World Association of Nuclear Operators’ (WANO) New Unit Assistance Working Group, a guide that aims to help new nuclear projects worldwide build operational capabilities and readiness in preparation for plant start-up. Panellists were Mr Benoît Lepouzé, EDF, France; Ms Renata Kozakowska-Stankiewicz, PGE EJ 1, Poland; Mr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Ltd., Bangladesh; and Mr Robert Fisher, Chairman, WANO New Unit Assistance Working Group.
