Senior Research Fellow Denise Cheong and Research Fellow Nivedita S attended a webinar organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) entitled ‘Security of Nuclear Material in Transport’ on 30 August 2021. The webinar focussed on the legal and technical implementation of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) and its 2005 Amendment highlighting the guidance provided to States and their competent authorities in IAEA Nuclear Security Series (NSS) publication NSS No. 26-G ‘Security of Nuclear Material in Transport’ on how to implement and maintain a physical protection regime for transport of nuclear material.  The role of table-top exercises in strengthening overall preparedness to respond to any potential incidents was also highlighted. The webinar also provided an overview of the IAEA transport security programme including its support in regulatory development and capacity-building in this area.
