CIL and ASIL Abroad Singapore (September 2025)
On September 3-4, 2025, in Singapore, the American Society of International Law (ASIL) convened its second ASIL Abroad Meeting - the first having taken place in Geneva in 2024.
Across two days and fourteen panels, the 2025 ASIL Abroad Meeting brought together international legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to engage with a wide range of contemporary challenges, including developments in international criminal law, sea-level rise, climate governance, the future of multilateralism, and the evolving landscape of dispute resolution. Keynote sessions featured distinguished speakers Ambassador Tommy Koh, in conversation with ASIL President Mélida Hodgson, and Ambassador Rena Lee, who shared reflections on the Meeting’s theme: “Traditions and Transitions in International Law.”
The Centre for International Law is ASIL’s Academic Partner and was a sponsor of this event.
CIL Director Nilüfer Oral was part of the ASIL Abroad 2025 Host Committee, as well as Celine Lange, Lead, Programme Development, International Dispute Resolution at CIL. Celine Lange was also one of the three ASIL Abroad 2025 Co-Chairs, together with Natalie Morris-Sharma (Government legal counsel, Singapore’s Attorney-General's Chambers) and Jarrod Wong (Professor at the University of the Pacific, Sacramento).
