24-31 August 2025: Dr Nilufer Oral was invited to speak at the 82nd Session of the Institute of International Law (IDI) Held in Rabat (Morocco).

The work of the 82nd session of the Institute of International Law (IDI) opened on Sunday at the headquarters of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.

The opening session of this session, which runs until August 31, was marked by a Message addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, to the participants, which was read by the President of the IDI, Mohamed Bennouna.

This session, which will continue on Monday at the Mohammed V University in Rabat, will focus on various international current affairs themes.

These issues include "Rules for the Prevention of Damage to the Environment of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction," "International Intellectual Property Law and Pandemics: Access to Medicines, Prevention, Preparedness, and Response," and "Status and Functions of Assemblies of States Parties to a Treaty."

Founded on 8 September 1873 at the Grand City Hall (Belgium), the Institute of International Law is the oldest existing international law institution which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023, with the main objective of promoting the progress of international law.

Since its founding in 1873, the Institute has continued its work uninterruptedly, with the exception of the years of the two world wars. Its members are members of international courts and tribunals, domestic and international bodies related to international law, as well as the academic world.

The Institute has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, which allows it to play a role in the deliberations of the UN organization.

In 1904, the Institute of International Law received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its work in favor of arbitration between States as a peaceful means of resolving conflicts, making it the first institution to have received the Prize.
