The Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore (CIL) and the Center for Environmental Law and Climate Justice (CELCJ) at the Universitas Indonesia Faculty of Law entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 5 August 2025.
The MOU aims to advance joint research and collaborative activities in climate change law, policy, and related fields. Recalling a similar MOU that the CIL signed with the Universiti Malaya acting through its Climate Change Advisory Committee on 2 September 2024, this marks a further key step towards establishing the ASEAN Universities Climate Change Network.
The Network, as outlined in the MOU, aims to foster interdisciplinary research, act as a repository of institutional knowledge, and leverage the collective strengths, expertise, and networks of participating universities. By working together, the Network seeks to advance climate knowledge, amplify regional impact, and elevate the ASEAN academic community on issues of mutual interest.
The MOU was formally announced on the second day of the two-day conference, "Systemic Integration of Climate Change in International Law," held at Copthorne King’s Hotel from 28-29 August 2025. Professor Dr. M. R. Andri G. Wibisana, Director-in-Chief of CELCJ and Vice-Dean of Universitas Indonesia Faculty of Law, and Ms. Danielle Yeow, Lead of the Climate Change Law and Policy commemorated the occasion with a ceremonial exchange of the MOU.
As the first collaboration between the two institutions, Professor Wibisana participated in the conference as moderator, presenter, and panellist. CIL looks forward to a fruitful partnership with CELCJ and to building more collaborative ties with other ASEAN universities in the future.
