CIL Welcomes New Research Associate

Anais Kedgley Laidlaw
CIL is delighted to welcome Anais Kedgley Laidlaw as a Research Associate in the Centre’s International Dispute Resolution programme.

Before joining CIL, Anais spent eight years with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including postings to New York and Bangkok. While at the Ministry, Anais specialised in international law and worked across a range of international law issues, including trade law, law of the sea and international security and disarmament. Anais was a member of the New Zealand legal team that presented arguments before the WTO Dispute Panel and Appellate body in the Australia Apples dispute. She was also involved in New Zealand’s free trade agreement negotiations with China and Hong Kong, and represented New Zealand at multilateral negotiations concerning fisheries, biodiversity, disarmament and arms control, most recently as part of the New Zealand delegation to the First Conference of States Parties to the UN Arms Trade Treaty. In New York, Anais was the legal advisor to New Zealand’s Mission to the UN and represented New Zealand in the UN’s 6th Committee and in the oceans and fisheries resolution negotiations. Prior to joining the Ministry, Anais worked as a lawyer for a large New Zealand law firm. Anais studied law at the Victoria University of Wellington and international relations at the University of Hong Kong.
