Entry into Force / Termination Provisions	Article III: “The Arrangement shall be renewed and remain in force for a Period of five years from the date this Fifth Supplementary Agreement comes into force. However, if a central bank, monetary authority or its equivalent body of an ASEAN member country has confirmed its acceptance of this Fifth Supplementary Agreement the Arrangement shall remain in force for an additional period of one year for each new member.” Article IV: “This Fifth Supplementary Agreement shall come into force on August 5, 1992.”

Additional Information	The ASEAN Swap Arrangement forms the basis of the 2000 Chiang Mai Initiative (CMI), a currency swap mechanism involving the ASEAN+3 member states (ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea). The initiative comprises the ASEAN Swap Arrangement and a network of separately negotiated bilateral and multilateral swap agreements. Lao PDR acceded to the 1977 MOU, the 1-6^th Supplemental Agreements and the 1981 Amendment via the 1997 Second Protocol for the Accession of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to ASEAN Agreements. Brunei Darussalam was a member of ASEAN at the time of the adoption of this instrument, but was not a signatory. As of this update CIL staff have no information on the participation in the 1977-2000 ASEAN Swap Arrangement by Brunei, Viet Nam, Myanmar or Cambodia.
