On 24 August 2026, the NUS Centre for International Law launched its latest publication, The Straits of Malacca and Singapore: A Model for the World, published by World Scientific Publishing at The POD, National Library Board. The book launch was attended by Guest-of-Honour, Minister Jeffrey Siow (Minister of Transport, Second Minister of Finance), and colleagues from the diplomatic, academic and cultural communities. 

The book is edited by Professor Tommy Koh (Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Dr. Nilufer Oral (Director, NUS Centre for International Law), Emeritus Professor Robert Beckman (Senior Advisor, Ocean Law and Policy, NUS Centre for International Law), and Dr. Tara Davenport (Co-Head, Ocean Law and Policy, NUS Centre for International Law). It examines the Straits of Malacca and Singapore from different disciplines—international law, maritime security, hydrography, international affairs, diplomacy, governance, cooperation, and marine environment—while keeping in mind volatile geopolitical circumstances in recent times, thus making it a timely and necessary contribution to the existing literature. As the book brings together the successes and challenges that the Straits of Malacca and Singapore face, it is hoped that the book would enhance the understanding of one of the world's busiest waterways, and that the Straits of Malacca and Singapore would serve as a model for the world and regions with vital sea lanes.
