Oceans related considerations has gained increasing prominence in climate change dialogue. The recent Decision 1/CP26 issued at the conclusion of COP26 invited the relevant work programmes and constituted bodies under the UNFCCC to consider how to integrate and strengthen ocean-based action in their existing mandates and workplans. An annual dialogue to strengthen ocean-based action was also established. This webinar aims to address the oceans agenda in the UNFCCC context, considers the actions taken in the maritime context to address climate change and examines the synergies between and implications of the heightened attention to the integration and strengthening of ocean-based climate action on the law of the sea and international marine protection regime.
