The WTO in a Midst a Rupture in the Global World Order
Wednesday, 25 February 2026, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Four Points by Sheraton, Robertson Room
382 Havelock Road, Robertson Quay, Singapore 169629

This public lecture will examine the evolving role of the World Trade Organization beyond its traditional focus on dispute settlement and negotiations, set against broader transformations in the global trade landscape. It will explore how the WTO has developed into a forum addressing a wider range of issues through new methods of work, including committee-based deliberation, plurilateral initiatives, and enhanced engagement by the Secretariat.
Drawing on recent institutional practice, the lecture will consider developments relating to climate-related trade measures, digital trade, artificial intelligence, global supply chains, and other emerging areas of WTO activity. It will also examine how the WTO adapts to political, economic, and systemic pressures, and what this evolution means for the future relevance, effectiveness, and legitimacy of multilateral trade governance. The lecture will conclude with a moderated discussion and audience Q&A.
