International Aviation and Criminal Law – Where Are We Now?


Introduction

This lecture covered a number of Jurisdictions and examples to show that in the aftermath of an Aviation incident there is a much greater likelihood that a criminal investigation will follow. Increasingly, this is leading to prosecutions of companies, organisations and individuals.

About the Speaker

Gerard Forlin QC was educated at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, and the London School of Economics, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn.

As Queen’s Counsel in both criminal and civil fields, Gerard specialises in many aspects of regulatory work and has acted in recent major cases involving catastrophic road, air, chemical, nuclear, construction, rail, shipping, product liability and environmental matters.

In 2012, Gerard was appointed to the Royal Aeronautical Society Panel of Mediators and Arbitrators, which has only 14 members worldwide. Gerard has lectured, practised and consulted in over 40 countries and published over 90 articles. He is General Editor of ‘Corporate Liability: work related deaths and criminal prosecutions’ (3rd edition) Bloomsbury 2012. Gerard practises from London, Singapore and Sydney.
