The Centre for International Law (CIL), the Law of the Sea Institute, Berkeley (LOSI) and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) hosted an international conference on Marine Environmental Protection in Asia: Regional Implementation of IMO Conventions, on 30 – 31 August 2016 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore. H.E. Mr Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization delivered a keynote address. The Conference reviewed the existing rules, assessed the current mechanisms and discussed ways to protect the marine environment from pollution by ships and offshore facilities. There was a special panel for junior scholars. The Conference was attended by Judge Jin-Hyun Paik and Judge James Kateka, both from the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, international law experts and academics, regional officials and members of the shipping community.
