Academy Launch

The inaugural Singapore International Arbitration Academy was launched on Monday, 26 November 2012 as the National University of Singapore's Centre for International Law (CIL) opened its doors to private sector and public sector lawyers and officials from Singapore, the ASEAN member states, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Spain, and Tanzania. A keynote speech was delivered by the Attorney-General of Singapore, Mr Steven Chong, S.C., who noted that the Academy, spearheaded by the CIL under the guidance of former Attorney General and now Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, is the latest in recent efforts made in Singapore to enhance its status as a premier arbitration hub.

The Academy is designed to build capacity in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, not only in Singapore, but throughout the Asia-Pacific region. After the Attorney’s speech, the programme was opened by Mr Gary Born of WilmerHale LLP, one of the world's most foremost experts in international arbitration.
