It has been thirty years since countries first came together and recognized climate change as an international cause for concern and action during the historic Earth Summit held in June 1992. Despite the addition of the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement to the UNFCCC's arsenal and considerable developments in climate science, the world is still nowhere close to addressing the climate crisis.
Professor Daniel Bodansky is a preeminent authority in global climate change and is a prolific and celebrated author on the topic. He has served as climate change coordinator and attorney-advisor for the U.S. Department of State, in addition to consulting for the United Nations on climate change issues. In this lecture, he will review the key stages in the development of the UN climate change regime, analyze why the climate change issue has been so intractable, and introduce possible international law solutions to address the climate change problem.
The Centre for International Law is proud to host Professor Daniel Bodansky at this important juncture in history as we seek to review and examine the achievements of the international climate regime at its 30th anniversary.
