The UNESCO Chair on AI Law & Sustainability at the Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore (NUS) will convene the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Justice, and the Rule of Law on 7 October 2026 in Singapore. The conference is organised in partnership with UNESCO, with the support of the International Law Association Committee on AI & Technology Law.
The event is expected to bring together around 60 invited participants from Singapore and around the world. Guests and participants will include Chief Justices and senior members of the judiciary, ministers and senior public officials, diplomats, academics, legal practitioners, researchers, and specialists working on artificial intelligence, technology policy and governance. The conference will provide a focused setting for exchanges across judicial, legal, policy, academic and technical perspectives.
A central part of the programme will be a UNESCO consultation on the Judiciary AI Diagnostic Tool. The consultation will provide participants with an opportunity to consider institutional readiness for the use of AI in justice systems, the safeguards required for responsible adoption, and practical approaches to due process, human oversight and accountability.
The wider programme will examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping questions of justice, public governance and institutional responsibility. Discussions will address AI and sustainable development, the environmental and social implications of digital infrastructure, equality and access to justice, professional responsibility, cross-border data and digital infrastructure, public procurement, accountability, and access to remedies across jurisdictions.
The occasion will also mark the formal launch of the UNESCO Chair on AI Law & Sustainability at CIL, NUS. The Chair examines the governance of artificial intelligence through international law, with particular attention to courts, public institutions, human rights and sustainable development. Its programme includes research, policy engagement, judicial engagement, regional dialogue, visiting research fellowships and institutional cooperation.
The conference has also been recognised as an Official Pre-Summit Event of the Geneva AI Summit 2027 and forms part of the Road to Geneva AI Summit programme, connecting the discussions in Singapore with the wider international dialogue on AI governance, justice and sustainability.
