First Ever ASEAN Economic Community Law Course Launched at NUS

ASEAN-EC-LawCourse-300
The ASEAN Economic Community Law and Policy course was launched on January 11th 2011 in the Faculty of Law, NUS. This is the first course in the world on ASEAN EC Law and it seeks to address the increasing integration and legalization efforts of ASEAN after the ASEAN Charter was ratified in 2008. Adjunct A/P Edmund Sim, Partner, Appleton Luff, and an Associate of CIL, teaches the course. A/P Sim has been one of the leading practitioners of international trade law in the ASEAN region for the last 15 years. He brings a unique “business” perspective to the issues and challenges of ASEAN regional economic integration. Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, former ASEAN Secretary-General, was the first guest speaker and he provided an incisive and candid overview of ASEAN. Ambassador Tommy Koh and former ASEAN Secretary-General Rodolfo Severino will also be guest speakers in the coming weeks. The course was co-developed with A/P Michael Ewing-Chow, Head Trade/Investment Law and Policy, CIL and Co-Director, ASEAN Integration Through Law Project with the assistance of Liu Gehuan, Research Associate, CIL.
