New Publication: “Submarine Cables: The Handbook of Law and Policy”””

Submarine-Cables-The-Handbook-of-Law-and-PolicyCIL is proud to announce that “Submarine Cables: The Handbook of Law and Policy” is now available. The book is edited by Douglas Burnett, the legal advisor of the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC), and two CIL staff members, Robert Beckman and Tara Davenport.

Although submarine cables are critically important communications infrastructure and the backbone of the Internet, there has been an absence of literature on the subject. As a result, CIL and the ICPC have been collaborating for the past two years to produce a book designed to be a one-stop shop of essential information pertaining to the international governance of submarine cables.

The Handbook provides readers with an invaluable source of information regarding the operation of submarine cables, the international law that governs them and policy recommendations to address the issues that face both governments and the cable industry in the governance of submarine cables. The sixteen chapters in the Handbook are authored by legal experts and by experts from the cable industry. The book will be an invaluable resource for government officials, the cable industry and researchers.
