Ocean Law and Policy Research Fellow

The Centre for International Law (CIL) was established in 2009 as a university‐level research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS). It is located at the Bukit Timah Campus of NUS, together with the Faculty of Law.

CIL’s Ocean Law and Policy Programme engages in general research on ocean law and policy with both a global and regional focus. In addition, under a research grant from the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), it engages in research on ocean law and the regulation of international shipping, including the governance of Arctic shipping, transit passage regimes in straits used for international navigation, marine environment governance, and other emerging issues relating to ocean governance.

CIL provides opportunities for its research staff to attend conferences and workshops in the region as well as to attend training programmes such as the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy. In addition to conducting research, members of the research staff in CIL’s Ocean Law and Policy Programme assist in the organisation of international and regional conferences and workshops and in training courses for government officials.
