Prof Beckman presents Submarine Cable Writing Competition Prize

SubCablesCompetitionPrize-27Jun2013-sMr Youri van Logchem, a PhD Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), received the 2013 ICPC-Rhodes Academy Writing Competition on Submarine Cables and International Law award from the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy and the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) for his paper entitled “Submarine telecommunication cables in disputed maritime areas”. The award was presented to Youri at the CIL Roundtable on the South China Sea, International Law and UNCLOS on 27 June 2013 by CIL Director Robert Beckman, who joined the Board of Directors of the Rhodes Academy recently, and Mr Richard Sykes, Vice-President, ONT Operations of PACNET, representing the ICPC. Established in 2010, the contest is open to all former and present students of the Rhodes Academy to encourage legal writing on submarine cables and law of the sea of a standard suitable for publication in international legal literature.
