  • Profile

Dr Arron N Honniball is a Research Fellow in the Ocean Law and Policy team at the Centre for International Law. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws (hons, first class) from University College London, before earning his Master of Laws (cum laude) in public international law at Utrecht University. Arron remained at Utrecht University to complete his doctoral research as a member of UNIJURIS and the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea, defending in March 2019 his PhD entitled ‘Extraterritorial Port State Measures: The basis and limits of unilateral port state jurisdiction to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing’.

Arron’s current publications concern issues of extraterritorial jurisdiction for foreign flagged vessels, piracy and the continental shelf, as well as co-authored pieces on public participation in drafting the Sustainable Development Goals. At the centre, he will wrap up a few fisheries law projects while expanding into issues raised by international maritime crimes, MSR and the regulation of GHG and sulphur emissions at the IMO, or unilaterally.
