Johan is a former practitioner in Public International Law and diplomatic communication with extensive experience in regional legal frameworks. He served at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat/Headquarters from 2017 to 2024 as the main focal point for the Depositary of all ASEAN Treaties. During his tenure, Johan played an active role in the negotiation, implementation, and monitoring of various ASEAN treaties, with his final assignment focusing on the negotiation of the ASEAN Extradition Treaty. In this capacity, he also facilitated various international legal cooperation activities within ASEAN through the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) and the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Central Authorities on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (SOM-MLAT).Â
Prior to joining the ASEAN Secretariat/ASEAN Headquarters, Johan was sent by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to study law at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. His research interests are focused on Public International Law, including Treaty Law, Diplomatic Law, and ASEAN’s legal frameworks.
