Sidney Tambasi NETYA joins the NUS Centre for International Law (CIL) as a Research Associate with the International Economic Law & Policy Programme. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law, specialising in International Economic Law, from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, where he graduated summa cum laude. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Kenyatta University, Kenya.
Prior to joining CIL, Sidney worked as a Science Diplomacy Consultant with Landscape Alliance | CIFOR & ICRAF in Nairobi. While pursuing his LL.M., he served as a Research Assistant to Professor Phoebe Okowa (now a Judge of the International Court of Justice) during the 76th Session of the United Nations International Law Commission, and also worked as a researcher with the South Centre. He trained as a lawyer at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna in Nairobi.
An accomplished oral advocate, Sidney led Kenyatta University to secure its first international moot court title by winning the 30th Christof Heyns African Human Rights Moot Court Competition in 2021. In 2020, he was Global Runner-up at the 12th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, and in 2025, he received the Excellence in Advocacy Award at the Singapore International Arbitration Academy (SIAA).
Sidney’s academic and professional interests lie in the scholarship and practice of general public international law, with a particular focus on international economic law and international dispute settlement.
