For years, discussions about artificial intelligence (AI) and international humanitarian law (IHL) occupied a curious space. They were important, but comfortably theoretical. Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore convened in April 2026 a regional workshop in support of the ongoing West Point Manual on International Law Applicable to Artificial Intelligence in Warfare (AI Manual). Many of the papers presented there have since been published in the Asia-Pacific Journal of International Humanitarian Law Special Issue on Military Artificial Intelligence. Samuel White (CIL Global Fellow and  Scientia Senior Lexturer, UNSW Canberra (based within the Australian Defence Force Academy)), Danielle Yeow (CIL Lead on Cyber Law and Governance) and Jonathan Kwik (Asser Institute) introduce the Articles of War series seeking to continue that discussion in a format designed for practitioners.”
