CIL Director Dr. Nilufer Oral and CIL Co-head of the Oceans Law and Policy Team Dr Tara Davenport published two commentaries on international legal aspects of the restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz after the attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran.

Dr. Davenport’s commentary in Channel News Asia on ‘Why the Right of Passage Through the Strait of Hormuz Matters to Everyone, Not Just to Singapore,’ discusses why it is in the interests of all states to uphold the international legal principles on passage through straits used for international navigation.

Dr Oral’s commentary in Fulcrum on ‘Passage Through Hormuz in a Time of War and Peace’ discussed the application of the law of the sea and the law of naval warfare to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
