On 20 September 2023, the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response is adopting the Political Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response. Although criticized for being aspirational and lacking commitment to action, the Declaration is an important source of legitimacy and motivation for all actors in the pandemic space – at national, regional, and international levels.
