CIL Research Associate Bikashita Choudhury published a blog on Opinio Juris entitled, ‘One Ship and Three Identities: What Is International Law Tracking?’ The blog examines the distinction between a ship’s documentary identity, apparent digital identity, and nationality, arguing that these concepts are neither analytically equivalent nor legally interchangeable. It highlights the risks of treating AIS manipulation as equivalent to nationality fraud or statelessness, particularly in relation to the exercise of Article 110 interdiction powers under UNCLOS.
