CIL Research Fellow Liu Yulu published an article on ‘Southeast Asian Countries at the Sessions of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution and the Bridging with ASEAN Marine Plastic Policies’ in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ocean Law and Policy, Volume 10 (2025): Issue 2 (Nov 2025). 

This article discusses the management of plastic pollution in the ASEAN region following the United Nations Environment Assembly Resolution 5/14 on a legally binding instrument addressing the matter. The article in particular explores how ASEAN can enhance its effectiveness and strengthen policies on plastic pollution, while also improving its regional position and approach in the ongoing international negotiations in the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee.
