Having completed the first drafts of papers in its project exploring the concept of a multilateral appellate mechanism for investor-State dispute settlement; and in light of the public release of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, and the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement – both of which include the EU’s proposed new first instance and appellate tribunal model for investor-State dispute settlement – on 7-8 April 2016 CIL hosted a workshop focussing on the results of its research, and the new EU model. The workshop was attended by project contributors; government representatives from the European Commission, Vietnam, and Singapore (the latter in their personal capacity only); and CIL researchers. The workshop was chaired by CIL Senior Principal Research Fellow, Christopher Thomas QC.
The final results of the project will also be presented in the afternoon session of a conference on “Recent Developments in International Investment Law”, scheduled for 4 November 2016, in conjunction with the Singapore International Arbitration Academy.
